Moving is a stressful venture. First you have to find a moving company, then you have to pack up your entire household and in between there are tons of other little things that need to be accomplished. When you are planning your next move, don’t forget to complete these often forgotten tasks.

If you are moving out of the area, don’t forget to head to the cleaners and pick up your dry cleaning. Every year, items go unclaimed because people simply forget about them. Also, make sure you pick up anything you left at a repair shop, such as a vacuum cleaner.

Overdue fees add up, so be sure to find costly items such as DVD rentals and library books. This is especially important if you are moving out of the area, but if you can’t find a library book or video, you will accrue late fees every day and might eventually have to pay for the items, as well as the fines. Also, while you are packing, be sure to set aside anything you might have borrowed from friends, family or neighbors and return these items, too.

Be sure to head down to the post office and file a change of address order. This way if you forgot to notify any important correspondents or bill collectors, they can still reach you.

Be sure you locate all of your important papers, such as your insurance records for your house, car, etc. Also if you are leaving the area, get copies of your medical, dental and veterinary records. This is also a good time to ask for recommendations in your new city. If you are changing banks, be sure to cancel all of your auto pays that come directly from your bank account.

The last house I bought, the owners left no house keys behind. In fact, they claimed to not even own any. All I got were a couple of garage remote controls and an unlocked house. Don’t do this to the new owners. Be sure to track down all of your keys and remotes. People often forget to check their cars for remotes, so go through the glove box and find them.

One thing many people forget to do is to charge all of their cell phones. This very well be the only way to communicate with your moving company on the big day, so be sure that you have it nearby and fully charged. Be sure to pack your chargers in a convenient spot, either in your car or maybe in your box of important documents.
